This course is designed to introduce participants to the theory and methodologies required to develop and maintain cross-cultural relationships in youth work. It will assist participants to engage with young people and volunteers from diverse cultures. The course will include sessions on understanding culture and identifying aspects of one’s own culture; the role of culture in communication and how different cultural and ethnic groups interact with each other; identifying different ways of working and communicating; and recognising the different stages of cultural competency. Participants will also develop the practical skills to engage with young people and volunteers in a multi-ethnic setting.
