Join sound artist and instrument builder Ed Devane for a day of exploring interactive electronics, noise making and sound installations. Using the Arduino microcontroller and a minimum of code, the day will be built around practical tutorials and creative challenges designed to inspire participants in their own experimentation with sound, movement and physical computing. Music and sound making is one of the end points of this workshop, but will encompass design processes, hands on making, wiring, coding and play along the way.

The take home kits chosen by Ed will make a good starting point into the world of Arduino. Based around the old reliable Arduino Uno, the kit will consist of a speaker, amplifier module, servo motor and some simple sensors. Participants must bring a laptop with Arduino installed, and a USB phone charger to power the projects with.

Join us on November 16th to explore creative new approaches to STEAM and Youth Arts that will enhance your work with young people!

Delivered by

Ed Devane has been involved in music making activities since he was a teenager. Beginning his creative career as an electronic music producer, a fascination with sound design led to explorations in the physical world of materials, electronics and fabrication. Being well equipped with technical skills from producing computer music, the move to physical computing and digital fabrication was a natural one. In recent years Ed has given many workshops to people of all ages, worked as a technician in NCAD and UL, and created a number of large scale sound installations for organisations such as Science Gallery, Big Bang Festival, Galway 2020 and more.
