Reporting to
STEAM Programme Manager, National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI)
Location
Office base will be at 3, Montague Street, Dublin 2 with travel for work required. NYCI is currently piloting a hybrid model of working.
Hours of Work
35 hours per week (some flexibility will be required, such as evening/weekend work).
Duration
Fixed term until end of Dec 2024.
Remuneration
Project Officer scale – €37,062 – €44,119 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience

Role and Purpose
The STEAM and Youth Work Officer will develop, deliver and coordinate a range of professional development training and resources to build the capacity of the youth work sector to use and embed STEAM in Youth Work to improve the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities
• To develop, deliver and coordinate a range of continuous professional development trainings, events, supports and resources.
• To support the delivery of frontline STEAM in Youth Work projects.
• To collaborate with a range of frontline youth work organisations and service providers in the delivery of the project.
• To support the development of the project monitoring and evaluation framework and ensure all required data is collected and stored.
• To develop and implement a project marketing and communications plan.
• To broker relationships between frontline youth work organisations and STEAM academic and cultural institutes around Ireland.
• To remain abreast of best practice and innovation in STEAM education and public engagement (EPE).
• Comply with NYCI’s child protection policy and safeguarding statement.
• Perform any other duties which may be assigned by your NYCI line manager or Director to ensure the smooth running of services.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Attainments
Essential:
- A third level qualification in either a STEAM-related area, youth/community work, education, participatory or community arts or communications or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable:
- Post-graduate or other relevant professional qualification relating to STEAM communication, education or public engagement, youth or community work, curriculum development, professional development or facilitation.
Experience
Essential:
- Post qualification working in education and public engagement or youth and community development (3 plus years’ experience).
- Developing and delivering capacity development, professional development or education or public engagement programmes for non-formal, alternative or formal education providers (3 plus years’ experience).
- Building positive relationships and delivering collaborative projects with a range of stakeholders (3 plus years’ experience).
Desirable:
- Developing and implementing marketing and communications plans for educational resources or other relevant products and services.
- Developing online resources and programmes of learning.
- Conducting needs assessments, evaluation or research.
Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude
Essential:
- Policy and practice relevant to the youth work or STEAM EPE sectors.
- Principles and practices of non-formal STEAM EPE.
- Organisational and project coordination skills.
- Diplomatic with strong negotiation skills and the ability to build positive relationships within a diverse range of teams and partnerships.
- Skills in undertaking needs assessment, evaluation or research.
- Results driven with a focus on the development of excellent practice and creative, solutions-focused problem solving.
- Ability to work flexibly and autonomously and to manage a complex workload in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- IT skills and willingness to develop them further.
- Full valid driving licence and a capacity to travel as part of the job.
- Strong passion for equality and inclusion.
- Commitment to the aims of NYCI.
