We are delighted to announce that Eimear Manning from our Youth2030 team has been appointed to An Fóram Uisce / The Water Forum by Darragh O’Brien, T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage. Over the next three years Eimear will represent NYCI and young people on matters relating to Ireland’s water management.
The Water Forum is a national statutory body that was established in June 2018 in accordance with the Water Services Act 2017, and it provides an opportunity for stakeholders to debate and analyse a range of water-related issues. The vision of The Water Forum is for clean and healthy waters, supporting biodiversity, community wellbeing and economic sustainability. The Forum consists of 26 members who represent a wide range of organisations who, while sitting on the Forum, have a legal role on advising the Minister, the Water Policy Advisory Committee, Uisce Éireann and the Commission for Regulation of Utilities.
As our Climate Justice Development Officer, Eimear will be advocating for issues including access to clean and safe water for drinking and leisure; coastal and ocean sustainability; a just transition in Marine Protected Area management; offshore renewable energy; and more.
Wherever possible, Eimear will be asking for inputs from young people to ensure that diverse feedback is represented, so keep an eye on this space and on Eimear’s personal LinkedIn profile and Twitter/X account. You can also email your suggestions to eimear@nyci.ie. Don’t forget to share this with young people that you think would be interested in having a say.
Youth 2030 is a partnership between NYCI and Irish Aid, working in consortia with Concern Worldwide, Maynooth University and Trócaire to deliver Global Youth Work to the youth sector.
