We are very excited to announce the third year of the ‘Young People’s Committee’. Since 2020, The National Youth Council of Ireland’s Youth 2030: Global Youth Work programme has welcomed a group of young people to support a strong youth participation movement around global justice issues that matter to them.
The work of the committee will enhance young people’s knowledge, understanding, critical thinking, and participation on global justice issues affecting Ireland and the world. Last year’s group had the opportunity to review and advise on the work of the Youth 2030: Global Youth Work programme and to lead projects such as the Youth Manifesto on Climate Justice and the Just Transition project in collaboration with the National Economic & Social Council.
Application Process & Rules
Committee Members must support an ethical approach to development and global justice issues and have a positive attitude towards learning and developing their critical thinking skills (which can sometimes involve difficult conversations and/or realisations, such as challenging internal biases). Committee members receive no remuneration for their work but will be reimbursed for transport costs for meeting in person.
Members will be expected to attend online monthly meetings that will offer ideas on how to further promote global justice topics and shape events contents. Meetings will be hosted by a member of the Youth 2030: Global Youth Work team. Members of the Young People’s Committee will also have opportunities to attend relevant trainings and workshops as they arise.
The committee will sit for a one-year term (September 2022 – June 2023), after which we hope members will apply the skills and competence developed in other projects and platforms. Committee members can expect to end their term with a greater understanding of local and global justice issues; a better sense of how to think critically about information; an increase in competency skills relevant to the working world; and practical skills for advocacy and campaigning.
(Note: Applicants may find it helpful to use Skills Summary to reflect on their relevant experiences and skills to prepare their Application Form).
